HOW: WORKING GROUP SESSIONS (1-4)
The Model Arctic Council Working Group sessions are simulations of three of the six Working Groups of the Arctic Council. Delegates will be assigned to a specific Working Group, with each delegate representing the interests of her or his assigned country/organization in their Working Group. Each Working Group will discuss a specific topic.
Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP)
- Topic: Global Climate Change: The Environmental Consequences Bearing on the Arctic
Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment (PAME)
- Topic: The Effects of Oil and Gas Activities on the Arctic Environment
Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG)
- Topic: Human Health in the Arctic: Challenges in the 21st Century
The purpose of these Working Groups is to formulate a Report to be presented to the Arctic Council Session on Day 2. This report will outline the groups’ recommendations on what actions should be taken by Member States/organizations to address the topics discussed in each of the Working Groups.
- Each Working Group will have approximately 24 delegates.
- Decisions made by the Working Group must be made by consensus.
- 3 Working Group reports will be presented to the Arctic Council Session on Day 2.
